Specializations and many more can be unlocked by completing Service Assignments.
I'm assuming this is the objective you see in the lower right at start of game with the check boxes?

"Will you pick one kit and master it, or complete them all and become a jack of all trades?" ? ? ?
I don't see any way it lets you pick and choose, or skip one, it just gives you one, and you seem to have no choice in the matter.

Objectives need to unlock new weapons is spelled out in BF1 Companion, how hard would it been for the lazy people at DICE to add the new customization to Companion?
Then a while back, DICE removed all the weapon stats, damage, recoil, etc, not sure why they did this, it was useful to be able to compare. But with some many things, I can't begin to think what is going on in DICE's brain.

"Service Assignments are a new set of challenges that will test your mettle as a soldier. Show that you’ve got what it takes with the “Getting Started” assignments before moving on to the more difficult “Staying Focused” challenges. Will you pick one kit and master it, or complete them all and become a jack of all trades?"

Wow. How about you contribute to the thread by helping what information the author seeks rather than just a solitary threat for a title in caps.

Just a suggestion to assist on top of the moderation you provided. In answer to your question which is directly related to the discussion of moderation, we all should follow the rules, yes. Please know that i do sincerely give respect to you for being a volunteer modertor.

If I can assist I'd be happy to.

I'm not in a position to assist so obviously the one thing I was able to assist with was the fixing of the all caps title, outright locking the thread wouldn't have been of much help

So instead of clarification we got this, hopefully more answers to follow

EA/DICE really aren't interested in helping anyone, or fixing anything, they have your hard earned cash, now you're on your own. If your call tech support you get someone from across the pond reading a script, that has no knowledge, and can not help you. The only thing you get is...I will pass it on, but you should really post in the forums, LoL ! ! !

First you need to complete main 3 assignments (3 out of 5) to start unlocking 2nd row. You can click "track" so you can see what you need to do for selected assignment on loading screen. I have completed all main 5 (only for XP xD) and now in 2nd row i don't see anything special that would help me at all. In 2nd row first 4 assignments needs to be fully completed so you can start 2nd assignment (you need to do 6/6 things), sadly there is always 1 that will be a bit harder to do.

Only if I could, game is not scoring kills with weapons/gadgets. I had about 12 dynamite kills and none scored. Then I got one, and they it completed all five at once. I went through all the other one like breeze, and having now the same issue with bayonet charges, so far 15 scored, and not a single ONE counted.

Whoever creates these objectives at DICE obviously has never played the game. To unlock the one of the new support LMG's you have to shoot down (2) Aircraft, crud you can barely take them down with ground AA. LMG's shoot rubber BBs, I shot one plane with 7 clips from the Lewis gun, they just fly out of range and repair. We had every guy in our squad shooting the bomber at same time, we couldn't bring it down. You get 20 - 30 of damage, then they just repair, and it starts all over again.
What happens when you get close to a kill is, pilot/passengers bail, and you get nothing even if the plane is destroyed. Or you might be close, then plane is taken out, and guy on the AA gets the credit. They sure were user the heads when they came up with that objective, and have never tried to shot down a plane with a LMG ! ! !

@gunner1st You need to check what you need to do, also some assignments are multiplied (within those specializations, medals and guns) so it might count them for something else. Also it's good to track the thing that you want so game knows. Also i think you need to finish the game (till it ends) so everything gets saved.

DICE (according to westie) is trying to get players to use those guns as AA guns. If you want to get kills you will need to use AA to do most damage or wait till you see aircraft with smoke. Yeah it's hard and dumb but we can't do anything. Probably i won't deal with them because none of them bring anything good honestly.

I never leave rounds before they are finished, I am tracking everything I'm doing, and backing it up with screenshots. I've been gaming for 31 years, I pretty much know what I'm doing by now. (18) bayonet kills since the DLC released, and not a single one has scored for "Storm the Doors". The game clearly has issues, here's just another example.
One of my medals for last week was...20 kills with a single shot rifle. Also the new scout weapon "Mosin-Nagant M91 Marksman" requires 50 kills with Gewehar 98 Marksman, this is what I call getting the best band-for-your-buck, by killing two birds with one stone. Back to the point, I had 39 kills with the Gewehar 98 Marksman ( a single shot rifle) and the objective of 20 kills required for the weekly medal had not completed yet.

I play all the classes, I want one of the new support weapons, I spoke to friend that was lucky enough that had the golden BB, and stated the new weapon was good compared to vanilla support LMG's. I'd rather not run around all the time as a scout making one-shot pistol kills from halfway across the map. Get the hing DICE, if you want to Nerf something, nerf some of the pistols! ! !

I'm unable to finish "eye on the prize" because it is not registering kills behind a sniper shield. Does it matter which gun are you using? I'm shooting with SMLE MKIII Carbine.

    Gunner,
The only medal I could find for the weekly that requires 20 kills from a Single-Action Rifle is the Scout Order of Valor and it has 3 stages:

    Stage 1
Get 20 Kills with Single-Action Rifles
    Stage 2
Get 10 Headshots with Single-Action Rifles
    Stage 3
In a Life, get 5 Kills with Single-Action Rifles

So it looks like you did Stage 1, but didn't do the 10 HS's and "in a life get 5 kills". These cannot be completed concurrently. So you might want to check because as far as I know, all Weekly's have more than one stage.

This sounds pretty lame of a mod to have to act this way... Just send him a friendly message would have been good, and better if you took the time to post an answer! I'm pretty sure most people do not care that much about all caps and would rather see answers than your display of power.
