Has anyone done any audio testing?

Off their own backs? I just mean like analysed all the different audio options to see which one is best for footsteps? I'm constantly switching from one to the other but none of them really stand out. Can't settle on one, just wondering if anyones done any actual, in depth tests and comparisons to find out which one is the best.
