Why? Don't say it's because it's more realistic because a Lewis gun weighs about the same as an MG42 and it can ADS. Obviously there would have to be some increased recoil and reduced range but at least you wouldn't run into as many corner campers. To me this would balance out the lack of actual LMG's. The KE7, Bren, FG42, and the LS26 are all really just assault rifles. The Lewis gun is the only one that feel like an LMG.

Secondly, BF4 had similar problems with the MG4 and the AWS being no-recoil easymode weapons with over 50+ rounds making them annoying to fight against. They realized that there needs to be a negative when doing assault rifle damage with a no-recoil bottomless magazine type weapon, and being stuck in place while using it is their solution.
It's a bad system but it's working for what it does. The main issue that MMGs have is that everyone has infinite sprint and moves around the maps way to quickly for entrenching yourself or fortifying anything to matter. There's no downside for jump running full speed and spamming jump to get around, and the only time most MMG players get kills is when people run way out in the open with no cover for an easy spray down, or bellyfield in a corner and lame people as they come in from a doorway.
I would punish you if i was one of the devs. You'd have the ability to aim down sight but with a recoil so hard even a veteran would struggle to hit an enemy once..
Also i want to see you aiming down sight with a 50 pound weapon and hold its power. Try it close to your face, that will kiss you pretty nicely.
There is one thing BFV MMG has that is very different to past MG the overheat is only 50 bullets past had 100 or short length 30. I don't remember every overheating the browning in BF1 but the MG34 I have done many times.
