Asus GTX580 just died

This one time expensive GPU has finally popped it's clogs and I'm gutted. I was planning to upgrade to a 1060 for BF1 but decided BF1 wasn't for me after playing the Alpha & Beta tests.
The good news is, a fellow clan member from across the pond (Dallas) is sending me his old EVGA GTX970 for the price of a good bottle of whisky (approx £100) but this left me wondering if I should have invested the extra cash into a 10 series GPU instead!
My thoughts are that I won't be playing anything else more resourceful than BF4 so the extra cost would been wasted really! I only play on a 24" monitor so am I right in thinking the GTX 970 is more than ample for BF4? I can't see BF5 (if there will be a BF5) coming out in the near future so would any GTX 970 owners say this is the best option financially?

The 970 sounds like a great deal. I would go with that. Then again, what is the rest of your hardware setup?

The 970 is great, we are talking about 10-20% slower than rx480/gtx 1060. For that price I would totally go for it.

Thanks guys. While I'm still waiting on the card's arrival, my clan member over in the States is supping the 17 year old Balvenie Doublewood already. :-(
I need to get back on the Battlefield ASAP.
