Can't wait to see them use the broken point and click mortar system in this one, too. God forbid they make anything skill/teamwork based anymore.

I'm hoping after seven years they'll finally get it right this time but I'm not holding my breath.

How else would you make such a mechanic in a game like battlefield? As far as I remember bf3 was the first title to actually have a useable mortar which required you on it and shooting off a map.

Far Cry 2's mortar wouldve fit perfect. Range meter on the left and just add a flat compass on the bottom for aiming. No stupid minimap needed. Check out Far Cry 2 mortar on youtube. It's a far better way of doing the mortar imo. Would force teamwork and communication in more ways than the lazy 'click on the doritoes' mechanic ever did.

And watch no one use them.

We have no idea how mortars will work or if they'll be in the game at all (gadget or placement)

If mortars required more teamwork and such you'd barely ever see them (which is good/bad depending on your pov).

I honestly don't even know how the playerbase is gonna handle BFV if they can't even handle the most basic of teamwork elements in previous battlefield. I just don't see forcing teamwork and making said changes will make the mortar more "skillful"; it's a mortar in a video game. Unless you make it a VR 100% realistic experiance skill isn't even a factor.

What's to say even with such a change no one will actually use them as "intended". People will screw the teamwork and just use it regardless.

At least with bf1's mortar they are marked on the map when firing and completely vulnerable.

Technically the entire game is point and click lol

With bombers on Battlefield 1 I would be gutted if they weren't on Battlefield V.

Would love to pilot a Lancaster in this game!

I have always wanted to play with IJA/IJN faction and weaponry since I started playing online FPS games in 2010. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun offline bot matches was my first and last touch with those.

I see what your saying. It's why I stopped playing Battlefield after they made them remote controlled in BF4. DICE just don't seem to like to encourage teamwork or teamplay mechanics anymore. Instead of fixing the OP gameplay mechanic in BF3, they nerfed the HE rounds into near uselessness and went overboard on where you could set the mortar.

Not to mention the laughable range of it. I always thought they couldve left the range short if you were using the easymode minimap but still enable skill/teambased play by losing the minimap past a certain range. Wouldve workedfine like that and appeased both crowds, imo.

    throwing knives....

I wonder what "Garrot Spotting" is

A garrot from what I can find is a metal wire with a stick tied to each end. It’s used in assassinations and such. It may be like hardline where you interrogate a enemy and it spots a group of enemies on the map.

^ this. That's what it sounds like to me

Plus throwing knives and silencers; it's a real stealth oriented which is neat

    ~

    Also I'm saying it here and now;

If an Owen Smg is in vanilla/made later watch the "it's an automatico reskin" cries.

So, a small update to add in:

I misidentified an aircraft listed as a possible vehicle.

    180523_19054_battlefield-5-rotterdam-ww2-gn.png

the aircraft spotted flying in this concept artwork, (which I stated was prob an FW 190) may actually be a Fokker D.XXI - according to flakfire.

    140028_0.jpg

the Fokker D.XXI is a Dutch fighter plane that was used by the Dutch Air Force. They saw combat during the invasion of the Netherlands against the German Luftwaffe.
It was also used by the Finnish Air Force against the Soviets in the winter war.

That concept art is undoubtedly the Dutch city of Rotterdam, some tell-tale landmark buildings are present.

Maybe we'll see the Dutch as a future faction?
Seeing how they're starting with early war stuff, other factions they may go into are poland, france, maybe finland?

    so, a correction:

The aircraft seen flying in this concept art:

    180523_19054_battlefield-5-rotterdam-ww2-gn.png

I stated it might be an Fw 190.

    correction:
it may actually be a Fokker D.XXI (D.21) - according to flakfire.

    140028_0.jpg

The D.XXI is a Dutch fighter that saw combat with the Dutch Air Force during the invasion of the Netherlands against the Luftwaffe. It was also used in the winter war by the Finnish Air Force.

That concept art is without a doubt the Dutch city of Rotterdam - visible landmarks present.

maybe we'll see the Dutch as a future faction? theyre starting with early ww2, so other possible factions could be poland, france, maybe finland?
