To make it clear, The B -17 Flying Fortress was a heavy bomber that was first produced at 1936. It is mainly used by the US to bomb heavy fortified areas but you will have a 90% chance of dying because of the high risk of flak fire. Having this in Bf V could work as a potential reinforcement and can store up to at least 5 - 6 crew members. Lets take a more in depth look at these seats. But to make it balance it will auto pilot it self so it wouldn't be too powerful. Also make switching the seats at least 5 - 10 seconds long to balance it more.
BOMBARDIER - Will be controlling the bombs
TOP TURRET GUNNER - Will be controlling the top turret gunner seat and can only be aimed upwards.
TAIL GUNNER - Will be controlling the tail gunner seat and will only be aimed backwards.
RIGHT WAIST GUNNER - Will be controlling the right gunner seat.
LEFT WAIST GUNNER - Will be controlling the left gunner seat.
BALL TURRET - Will be controlling the ball turret under the plane and can only aim downwards.
So would you actually want to see this plane implemented because it was a beast at his time and has a potential use in BF V. Tell me your opinions.
I could see a game mode where there was a stage of air superiority first, bombing enemy objectives and then a land based stage where people started the fight with what they've managed to protect from the bombing.
But not in MP, everyone hated the heavy bomber and ac130 in all bf games, but this is dice, and generally theyre not good at learning from their mistakes, expect something similar to drop
I would absolutely LOVE each faction having heavy bombers with turrets and such. Going back to the good'ole days of having more than four airplanes in the air
I hope so, even if it's just in a campaign mission. I'd say it's my most favorite WW2 bomber. (let us have custom inscriptions/insignia's if B-17's are in multiplayer too)
BF1942 had it on some maps, and it whas not op at all, so why not.
It whas wery slow and easy to shoot down.
Agreed, i say add it!
There is however one big difference, in BF1942, you had to land both to repair and restock ammo. While now days DICE wants the game to be an arcade game with non-stop action so you just have to fly through some flying checkpoints saving alot of time. Not to mention self-repair while driving/flying isn't completely removed either. So it would take a lot longer for the B17 to restock on ammo in bf1942 than it will for BFV. they should remove the self repair completly, the only way to repair a vehicle should be from the outside. either yourself or some other doing it. At least force the pilots to go back to the repairpoint in the "main base" to repair. Instead of the annoying self repair that lets them stay on top of you all day.
In bf1942 the B17 had a total of 96 bombs which could be dropped in intervals of 8 with a 15 second reload once you've dropped a batch of 8. You did not need to drop all 8 at once, but it would not reload until you had dropped all 8 in the batch. So powerfull as it may be, it wasn't OP and you couldn't spam bombs all over. So as long as they have similar restrictions to it here then i guess it will be fine.
Also, the guns in the B17 was made to defend against fighters, other planes, not to shoot at infs on the ground, so i really do hope they don't make the guns so effective that they will be used to pick off infs at huge distances from the air. We've all seen those vids from BF1 with the OP bomber guns.. they don't even need to see the infs, just spam in their general direction and get the kill. In such a case they need to limit the ammo immensely, or have faster overheat with slower cooldowns.
Regardless of that, the B17 is a large and slow plane, so it is going to be an easy target to hit (if they add AA-guns on the maps, some BF1 maps had have far too little AA-guns). So it might be just fine. Although i still would have loved to see them having to land the planes to repair etc.
I really want this, I've always been fascinated with this airplane, especially horror stories of the ball turret gunner. I see everyone complaining about the heavy bomber but I think it's extremely balanced in BF1. It's extremely powerful, yes, but it is so slow and easy to shoot out of the sky. It maneuvers like total crap too. You can't make numerous runs quickly or anything, turning it around is so frustrating, the handling is like steering a cruise ship - but that's how you balance it to be fair against the powerful bombing it can do. I think there's a way to do this that is balanced like BF1. Maybe it has serious blind spots where fighter planes can shoot at it relatively unscathed, or nerf the defense guns on it or something. I'm sure there's a way to balance it.
What if that was a map exclusively only for the B-17 bomber. It can be like a special limited time game mode where you have to escort the bombers and the Germans have to destroy every heavy bomber. That was be so dope and sick!

I disrespectfully disagree. The AC130 was awesome.

I have LOVED the B-17 since I was a child in the early 70's and think it would be amazing to be able to man gun seats in it. It wouldn't be any different than the gunship in bf4. I also like the idea another poster made about a mission that you have to make it to your bombing run while defending multi player opponent fighters attacking.

In single player I could see an on rails section in the ball gunner seat, that would be cool, but not in MP
But this is dice, so I expect it to be in very soon unfortunately

USA Faction: B17
German Faction: He 111
For Heavy bomber class
