What if the Panzerfaust & Dynamite combo was only available to the Vehicle Buster Combat Role?

It seems to me that the Light Infantry Combat Role is far better than the Vehicle Buster Role, given the battle hardened (regain more health) and scavenger (find more ammo) traits.

Would it not help with the balance of the Assault class, and tanks, if the Panzerfaust and Dynamite (or AT mines) combo was only available for the Vehicle Buster Combat Role, whereas the Light Infantry replaces the Panzerfaust with either the PIAT or newly buffed frag grenade launcher?

What do people think? Should Light Infantry be more anti-infantry focused whereas Vehicle Buster be more anti-tank focused? Will this also help address the current tank balance issues that many have been, and still are, complaining about?

Decent idea; hell that could've been the archetype from the start as they had weapons and gadgets locked to the roles before the community freaked out and we lost some good ones (like the stealth one for recon with silenced smgs, throwing knives and a garrotee for melee).

Could have Light Infantry with at mines and the frag launcher and Vehicle Buster with rockets and dynamite. Would definitely be balanced change and ensure assault actually might play the intended role more often (as opposed to dumping rockets at infantry)

Yeah I was looking so forward to silenced SMGs and throwing knives, etc.!

I would say the PIAT should be in the Vehicle Buster combat role too, but I know it is a little more infantry focused!

I suppose we won't see equipment being locked to specific combat roles, despite things clearly not being quite right as they are!

Good idea, i have been using the PIAT actually playing as light assault infantry, used it for tanks and infantry which is what the PIAT Is designed for.
So I agree would be good if the Panzer was put into the vehicle buster role only.

Only thing for me though is I like to play with the correct weapons for the British and German forces, so I would need to switch to vehicle buster for the German side as I would not want to use the PIAT for the German forces if I stayed with light infantry role.

Original plan for classes and their combat roles (archetypes) sounded much much better. But alas the excessive desire for gameplay customisation...

I agree with this, and think it can be extended beyond just the assault class giving everyone some more customization and variety. Honestly, when they first introduced BF3 I was very taken back by the fact they had combined engineer and anti-tank into one role. I still prefer the way it was done in Battlefield 2, where the engineer and anti-tank were separate classes, and had only SMGs and shotguns. This was great balancing factor considering how much utility they provided for vehicular combat. The medic class had some good rifles, but the assault class had some of the most potent weapons like the G3, F2000, M203s, smokes, flashbangs, etc. As it stands "Combat Roles" don't really change much at all besides a few inconsequential perks. I think the "Combat Roles" really need to better archetype the classes and actually provide "roles" rather than "suggestions."
I didn't do all of the classes, but this is just an example of how more specialized combat roles could look.
      • Assault
        • *New* Grenadier: Anti-Infantry. Heavily armed combatant for storming objectives
          • Perks:
            • *New* Scavenger: Can resupply an extra grenade from supply points (still starts with 1)
            • *New* Athlete: Can throw grenades farther and more accurately. Mini-map trajectory indicator like the Piat has, but for grenades.
          • Weapons: Assault Rifles, Semi-Automatic Rifles, Submachine Guns, Shotguns
          • Gadgets: Grenade Launcher or smoke launcher, sticky dynamite
          • Grenades: Frag, Incendiary, Smoke
          • Bandages: 1
        • Specialist: Anti-Tank. Close range anti-vehicle support
          • Perks:
              Left as is
          • Weapons: Submachine Guns, Shotguns
          • Gadgets: Panzerfaust or Piat, sticky dynamite, AT Mines
          • Grenades: Anti-Tank Bundle, Smoke
          • Bandages: 1
        • Medic
          • Field Medic: Support. Can heal self and others with unlimited bandages like the current medic.
            • Perks:
              • *New* Surgeon: Unlimited bandages, and can revive faster than the combat medic.
              • Swift Effort
            • Weapons: Submachine Guns, Shotguns
            • Gadgets: Medic Crate (Unlimited), Bandages (Unlimited), Smoke Launcher
            • Grenades: Smoke, Frag
            • Bandages: Unlimited
          • Combat Medic: Anti-Infantry/Support. Gets medium range weapon, but loses unlimited healing utility
            • Perks:
                Left as is
            • Weapons: Submachine Guns, Shotguns, Self Loading Rifles
            • Gadgets: Bandages (3), Medical Crate (1), Smoke Launcher, AP Mine
            • Grenades: Smoke, Frag, Incendiary
            • Bandages: 1

Thanks for the feedback guys, and also I’m sure the devs have discussed similar ideas internally, I suppose it’s important for them to see that these are the kind of things we want to see!

I think some standard issue rifles/ DMRs, etc. Available for every class would be great too.

I think giving both dynamite and an AT launcher to ONE class is a HUGE MISTAKE. Why not give dynamite to recons? Might encourage them to come out the hills

I didn't flesh out examples for other classes, but similar to BF2 I could totally see having a recon combat role called "Commando" or "Spec Ops" that has sticky dynamite and submachine guns.

The anti-tank role would have the same disadvantage as other support roles: less anti-infantry effectiveness. Battlefield (in the past anyway) had been trying to support a Rock-Paper-Scissors balancing strategy. I'm all for the anti-tank role having strong anti-vehicle weapons, but the assault combat roles shouldn't be good at both killing infantry and vehicles at the same time. Normal infantry should be afraid of the tank, and the tank should be afraid of the anti-tank specialization. I can empathize with your frustration, but you also should remember that a tank is supposed to be an asset to the team and needs to be preserved because of its long respawn time. Infantry however can spawn instantly, and keep coming back to try and take out the tank. Some players may use the tank to pad their own stats, but there are bad apples in every bunch.

I specialise in anti-tank infantry gameplay as well as tank gameplay.

Personal comments and put downs are discouraged on this forum for good reason, please be constructive and have respect. I do not understand why you are so pugnacious towards me in particular.

If you disagree, I welcome it, but please do so constructively.

Surely, whatever your personal opinion, you recognise that the general consensus since launch has been that tanks have been in a difficult place, for casual and expert players alike. I have not once asked to dominate or farm free kills in an idiot proof machine. I welcome a raised skill ceiling to tankers and anti-tankers alike.

Stop with the personal attacks, flaming and baiting.

It is not allowed and it is a form of bullying which we have a zero tolerance approach on.

      Keep it civil.

Thank you, I would love to see a similar thing for other classes too, but we'll have to see what they have planned for us!

Canny idea but alas, can't see it happening because of the archetype removal.

      What could have been.......
