A lot of the weapons in Battlefield V are too easy to use. The recoil on assault weapons is very low, the damage output very high, and the ranged effectiveness is too strong.
This is by design. Assault is not able to sustain itself like a support, thus it must be more lethal to justify its place on the field. However, I think this is a mistake in the way we think about class roles. The assault’s role is now more vehicle killer and general demolitions. It needn’t be any more or less dangerous than any other class at average engagement ranges to justify itself.
Here are a few thoughts to adjust weapon balance to make it more equitable across classes.
1.) Remove scopes from assault and support weapons.
2.) Dramatically increase the recoil on ARs and LMGs. They should be the same while ADS but separated by better hip-fire for ARs and better stability for deployed LMGs.*
3.) Decrease the ranged effectiveness of semi-auto rifles available to the assault. The method can vary.
*general weapon balance principles should be considered as well.
For example: High capacity LMGs should have poor reload times.
Think of class combat specialties like this
Close Quarters<->Long Range
Current: Assault<->Assault<->Assault<->Assault<->Recon in the boonies where they’re not worth a damn anyway.
Right now, assault dominates across all practical range categories. No one-class should be able to go from counter-sniping to CQC. A general increase in recoil across automatic and semi-automatic weapons will help make snipers and MMGs/fixed guns more dangerous. It should also help on maps where cover is scarce when crossing to an objective. If player accuracy drops, it's an indirect increase to TTK. It also should encourage greater aggression onto objectives if there's less fear of instant death and greater reward for getting in close.
Nerf assault. Recon only scopes. Force player confrontation into closer-range combat as a natural reaction to decreased weapon accuracy. Suddenly medics seem great, more ammo will be needed, snipers are useful
, assaults are primarily demolitionists.
