Give all classes iron sight bolt actions

I think this could be amazing, maybe with limited specialisations or none at all. I can't think of any glaringly obvious balance issues with that (I haven't given it a huge amount of thought mind). Lets have some more bolt action.. action, it is WW2 after all.

They had this in BF1 called back to basics or something similar. It was fun and quite unforgiving at times but I enjoyed it.

But there never seemed to be more than 1 or 2 full servers at any one time, so unlikely Dice would see justification in reintroducing the mode with any low player count data.

He's talking about giving every class access to the bolt action rifles on the vanilla modes. I was calling for that on BF 1 as well. But they really should make them more usable. This game is even worse than BF1 for infantry rifles. I think all they need to do is increase the reload speeds to make them more usable at medium and even shorter ranges.

I think this would be a good idea but tbh the entire class weapons system needs to be reworked.

let's just let any class use any weapon. why not? keep the gadgets based on class, but allow any weapon to be used across the board by any "soldier." there's already zero balance, so what's stopping us from allowing it?

if your issue is going to be that everyone runs around with assault weapons, well, that's because there's no balance currently. that would allow everyone to at least compete honestly.

Yeah it would be nice to see all class iron sight bolt actions in vanilla. I think having them more difficult to use than other guns would suit this although they could use a damage buff imho.

YES! In BF1 there were "standard issue rifles" which were exactly this, the bolt action from your faction with irons, but they weren't "Standard" in dice servers, private servers had to turn them on, or they were available in the back to basics mode. These should most definitely be a thing in BFV. Lee Enfield for Allies, KAR98 for Axis.

They should give each of them a Carbine version of bolt-actions. Only thing that sucks is balance

So I get where your coming from, but having this instead of a B2B mode would break everything. Lets leave aside the "game is already unbalanced" argument for now, as this is still being tweaked and will improve (eg. assault rifles are getting nerfed to even out that particular imbalance). The suggestions made so far are all valid, but heres how I would see it playing out based on my experiences..

So if say we had a common rifle, it would need to be a middle ground one with similar stats across factions to start out balanced in anyway. Enfield/kar98 are too different to offer a fair balance every game. Something like the kar98 would be good simply because for the damage/range advantage there is trade off with ROF and reload speed. I know folks will disagree and say the enfield, model 8, or similar but these would have too many advantages over the class weapons too often and would again be a cause of major imbalance. The kar98 specs give a nice equal mix of advantage vs difficulty of use.

The suggestion to increase their ROF/reload speed above just turns everything into assault like SLRs so its a bad direction to go in IMO and just breaks all the classes and any differences between them or their uses

I think it would be stupid among other things.

Would prefer if they just rebrand recon to rifleman and redistribute the explosive gadgets so Assault can't do everything by themselves. They already have the sniper combat role for people who want to play sniper.

TNT should be with support class at the very least, would help distribte AT a bit more across a squad instead of one rambo class

Its like no one cares about game balance and would sell their kidney's just to make something feel historically accurate or making sure classes can fight at all ranges (defeating the purpose of the class-weapon system). There's a very good reason classes get different types of weapons in BFV, they tried this in BF4 without proper, well thought out implementation and it really hurt the class balance. Maybe if the game was built around a class based system that wasn't tied to effective combat range and select weaponry, this would be a great idea. But with BFV it would destroy what little class balance is already here.

I can't see it upsetting the balance that much, I mean we just got the (imho) overpowered ZK383 after players asked for some range love for Medic, so as the game progresses the class differences tend to homogenise slightly anyway. Adding bolt actions would be an easy way to give a range/skilled option to all classes rather than endless tweaking. If they kept them with iron sights and long bolt cycling time I'm guessing most players would still select the class specific guns. Maybe not, who knows, I still think it would be cool.

I can't see it being that negative balance wise, I mean we just got the (imho) overpowered ZK383 after players were asking for some range love for Medic, so as the game progresses the class differences tend to homogenise slightly anyway. If they kept bolt actions as just iron sights with a long bolt cycle time I'm guessing most players would still choose the class specific guns. It just gives a range/skill option to the three non Recon classes. Who knows, I think it would be cool though.

Ok, KAR against the Krag. Those are rather even, Krag has an extra round but the KAR has better sights. I see no down side in having these available to all classes, with iron sights it is much more difficult to snipe from across the map, most players won't use these because they are hard to get kills with but they would be really nice for us players that want to use a rifle but also want to play different classes.

I mean i agree to an extent in that it would be kinda cool. I'm all for the more authentic feeling of fighting in WW2. But i think having better balancing and overall just having a more fun game are far more important than immersion and authenticity.

I would love to see a gamemode similar to Back to Basics though outside of the core gameplay. Maybe each squad could use bolt actions while they could have one squad member allowed to use an mmg to replicate a standard german infantry squadron with multiple rifleman and a machine gun crew. Just a thought

in the early days of BFV I would chose to use the g95 with iron sights.
then I came to the realization of how easier if was for the assaults with x3 scopes to countersnipe me.
