*pacific theatre philosophy: control the air, control the sea, control the war.

i think it would be awesome to see an all out naval battle as a new game mode.
just carriers, destroyers, gunboats, submarines, and aircraft.. maybe an island but id rather not.

objective: destroy the enemies aircraft carriers and or destroyers.

# of players: 16v16 , 32v32
1v1 carriers (1 driver, 4 -6 aa guns, 8-10 aircraft)
2v2 destroyers or battleships (3-4 x triple firing 16 inch guns, 4 aa guns, 2 heavy auto cannon placements)
2v2 heavy or light cruisers with cannons (aa guns)
x multiple gunboats/torpedo boats available for both factions.
8-10 aircraft: bombers, dive bombers, torpedo bombers, and fighter escorts.

scene: open ocean, maybe an small island close by for infantry to fight over for heavy artillery positions.

battle scenario:
-aircraft carriers are home bases for each faction where aircraft can spawn and launch from with multiple AA placements or small cannons for defense against aircraft or smaller naval ships.
-destroyers or destroyers are out of reach of carriers and can only engage with other naval ships or aircraft.
-battleships/destroyers/gunboats/subs/ and heavy or light cruisers can freely engage each other at will with re-spawns available depending on vehicle type.
-aircraft and smaller naval ships must work together to cripple and destroy the enemies aircraft carriers while defending their own.
-carrier has significant amount of life.
-support ,mechanics can repair carriers or other naval ships to a certain percentage limiting a full repair of carriers or navy ships.
-first team to sink the enemy carrier wins.

Midway was essentially that in Battlefield 1942. Small island in the middle, sailable aircraft carriers, battleships, destroyers, submarines. Had flags on land and at sea for ships and planes to capture. Was a good map.

Guadalcanal was similar in naval scale but also had a large island to fight over.

Both maps were great fun in the past. Steering the carrier was like parking a truck in a 2 meter parking slot. The radio comment "enemy submarine spotted!" was also hilarious when broadcasted on el Alamein in LAN games.

But to be honest I think the game has already too many game modes which are splitting the already thin player base.

It does. Could do with trimming a couple of them.

With all the camping I noticed in every game mode (the camping increased dramatically) the ships would probably not move at all...

Naval combat in bf1 was mediocre at best. So I doubt Dice can really make it better. We will see obviously but don't have much hopes.

I think the time of huge maps and combined ware far as we knew it are over. The time they have to develop a new BF game is to short why we get games that are infantry oriented on small/medium size maps. BF games are not ment to survive more than 2 years until the next release, why we also see that rental servers are gone. The new trend is small fast develop games with less content than before. In that sense BF have become more like cod. I wouldn't be surprised if a new BF comes every year.

I just fixed that by adding some submarines to the lakes near the main bases on el Ala when we were running our public server those days  The server side modding function was really a great feature. Too bad that the current games do not support anything like that.

When looking at the latest BF games I doubt that there will be larger naval battles in BFV. The Dreadnaught in BF 1 felt more like a floating building than a batteship and in the end all other naval units that were playable in the latest BF titles were just smaller boats.

Wasn't Battle of Coral Sea entirely naval? Never got to play it being a mp only map; shame cos of the submarines they were cool

Find it amusing people still continue to demand naval maps but remember Legoland in bf1's turning tides?

People must have blocked out Heligoland Blight to even suggest such a thing.

I don't think we see that many player controlled large capital ships. If you played heligoland in BF1 is close to what I mean.

There are some things I think should never happen like submerseible vehicles there would be to much of advantage to that class.

I actually liked Heligoland Bight, but I guess I'm in the minority here.

Then again, I abhor Metro and Lockers, so I'm already in a minority when it comes to map preferences here.

I loved Legoland too and again detest Metro/locker especially the playstyle it implants

That's why I always find it amusing the map bashing and stuff

Helgoland looks interesting ... I just recognized that I never played on a server that was running that map. I guess I need to change that.
Btw, Coral sea wasn't a naval but an objective map with tons of airplanes.
The mixed maps with naval, ground and air combat worked quite well in BF 42 and I would really like to see maps like these in BF V.

Battle of midway perhaps? Torpedo planes, dive bombers, fighters, and ships various AA guns? Sounds cool
