I'm running low on space also an was thinking about getting an external hard drive. Does it just plug into one of the usb ports on the x1? I never used one before so not sure how it works.

Yessir. You plug it in and I believe I had to click the A button three times. Took all of 60 seconds.
Then, you go to the Storage within settings and move the games over to the new SSD. That didn't take long either.

For pure space, that is a good option. However, if you want additional speed, I would recommend that you look elsewhere.
I read that the older version of this HDD performs identically to the XB HDD (I believe the older version was a 5400rpm drive and I can't tell what this drive is).
My friend has the Touro S HDD, which is a 7200rpm drive. It is much quicker than the standard XB HDD.
i've got the 1tb and ok with the size of the game.
i've got 5 battlefield games installed on it, 3 borderlands games
and ESO and Fallout, and i still have 200gb free.
This is a pretty comprehensive list. For me, I wanted speed plus storage. If you are going to add a drive and don't want to spend for an SSD, I would recommend a 7200rpm drive. You will receive benefit from it.
I use these 2. My main played games go on the SSHD. I load Battlefield 1 first everytime and I have to sit there and wait for the other 29 players lol.
