PvZ: BFN Tips and Tricks: Legendary Upgrades

Learn all about Legendary Upgrades in PvZ: Battle for Neighborville.

Howdy, lawn legends! Want to know more about legendary upgrades in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville™? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

A legendary upgrade is a combination of a Legendary costume, paired with a themed upgrade. When these two awesome forces combine, they create a new layer of gameplay and strategy for a character. Note that the costume and upgrade do not need to be used together – you can still use one or the other to simply adjust the way your character plays or their visual appearance.

Generally speaking, legendary upgrades will change the primary weapon of a character in some way, without causing that character to deviate too far from their role or weapon archetype. They also add variety to gameplay by changing the playstyle of a character, while giving them added benefits of some kind.

As an example, our first legendary upgrade to release combines the Shogun-Guard upgrade with the Foodal Lord Dracornius costume for Kernel Corn. Once the Shogun-Guard upgrade is equipped, Kernel Corn will have a slower rate of fire, but will deal more damage, and will activate a small shield in front of himself when you Aim Down Sight (zoom in).

The Shogun-Guard changes Kernel Corn’s gameplay by adjusting his effective firing range to be further than other corn players are used to. It also grants him more defensive capabilities. He’ll become more effective at longer ranges, but less effective at closer ranges.

Keep in mind, the Shogun-Guard shield does not completely cover Kernel Corn. It’s a partial shield, leaving his lower cob exposed. Try finding other ways to protect his lower leaves (husk?), such as high ground or using ramps for lower coverage. Also, this shield has a much lower health pool than other shields in the game, so be strategic about when you use it!
