Cross-platform Matchmaking
Cross-platform matchmaking in EA SPORTS™ Super Mega Baseball™ 4 lets players step up to the plate against opponents across multiple platforms to keep competition fresh. Players on the following platforms can play against each other in Pennant Race and Online Leagues: PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Players using the EA App will be able to participate in cross-platform matchmaking when it launches on that platform at a later date.
For the first time, players can play against others across console generations–meaning that PlayStation®4 players can play with PlayStation®5 players and Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series X|S players in ALL online multiplayer modes: Online Leagues, Pennant Race, Exhibition, Franchise, Season, and Elimination. In online multiplayer modes other than Pennant Race and Online Leagues, players will not be able to play against those on other platforms (outside of their own console ecosystem), meaning that PlayStation players cannot play against Xbox Players, PC players cannot play against Switch players, etc.
Note: cross-platform availability can potentially be impacted on a platform by platform basis by things like planned or unplanned maintenance, server releases, Title Updates, unexpected downtime, or matchmaking updates.
Dual Entitlement
When you purchase the digital version of EA SPORTS™ Super Mega Baseball™ 4 on Xbox or PlayStation platforms, you may also receive access to the game on that platform’s previous or current generation platform.
The Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of Super Mega Baseball 4 also provide access to the digital version of the game on both consoles. The digital version of Super Mega Baseball 4 for PlayStation will include the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. The physical version for PlayStation 4 will also provide access to the digital version of the game on PlayStation 5. Registration of a single-use code may be required to access additional versions of the game.
Save data and progress sharing is a little different, varying between systems.
Save Data in Pennant Race and Online Leagues:
In both the Xbox and PlayStation console ecosystems, all data and progression for Pennant Race and Online Leagues is associated with your 1st party user account, and is stored on our servers, so progression in these modes is shared between Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5.
Save data (in all modes EXCEPT Pennant Race and Online leagues):
On Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: data is shared, which means players can switch back and forth between console generations and play the same save file on both.
On PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4: Players can import data from PS4 to PS5, but it's a one-way operation and players cannot take that save back to PS4 after the initial import.
Achievements / Trophies:
Xbox: Achievement progression is shared between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, so players can switch back and forth across generations and work towards the same Achievements.
PlayStation: Trophy progress is separate between PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, so trophies earned on one generation of console are not earned on the other.
Leaderboards:
Xbox: Leaderboards are shared between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in all modes.
PlayStation: Leaderboards for online modes are shared between PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but leaderboards for single player modes are separate.
