The Latest skate. Updates from Our Team!
We reflect back and share the latest on gameplay, San Vansterdam, audio and more
Hey there!
We have so much in the works with skate. and we know you’re itching to know more, so we wanted to share some more detailed updates on how things are progressing with the game.
Check out the video below or keep reading for some of the biggest highlights!
Gameplay
We’ve done a ton of work rebuilding Flick-It, skate.'s core trick control system. We want to make sure every trick feels fun and satisfying, while delivering the familiarity from past Skate games. On top of that, we’ve improved accuracy and control to make learning tricks easier.
The team is also hard at work to give you the tools to have fun your way, by yourself or with friends, anywhere in San Vansterdam. Almost everything you do in the game will earn you rewards, so you can customize your character, setup, and even unlock new objects to place and skate in San Van.
World and Art
Let’s talk San Vansterdam. Like any living, breathing city, it’s still under construction and... has a rich, weird history. We’ve taken inspiration from San Vanelona and Port Carverton, as well as some of our favorite real-world spots to make the city feel both familiar and totally unique.
Right now we’re focusing on San Vansterdam’s Downtown District, adding and tweaking details to make it feel alive, inviting, and, of course, a fun place to skate and play. Our goal is to make it somewhere you and your friends want to keep coming back to, and finding new stuff to do each time you do.
Audio
In skate. we’re curating an expansive soundtrack, and like the game, it will evolve and change over time so you don’t get sick of it. Those changes will also be influenced by what you choose to listen to.
Narrative
We’re going to keep these cards close to our vest (IYKYK) for now, but once we’re ready, we look forward to sharing more about the crew that has begun work on restoring our new home of San Vansterdam. In case you missed it, you can catch-up on the story so far here.
Character Customization
Self-expression is what skateboarding’s all about, which is why we’re stoked to bring in as many character customization options as possible to skate. Body types, hair, clothes, your board setup (including stickers!) — you’ll be able to tweak and style to your heart’s content.
Live Service, Community Collaboration, Playtesting
What we’re most excited about with skate. is that we’re building a game that can live, grow, and change with you for years to come. Everything you’ve heard about so far — the city, its story, the gear, music, game modes, and more — will evolve as we go from season to season.
The best part is that we’ve been building skate. alongside you, the community, since the very start. Through our skate. Insider playtests, we learn what’s working and what’s not. That collaboration has been awesome for us and invaluable for the game. Thank you to all of our skate. Insiders who have rolled with us so far, your feedback has helped us develop skate. with our players and community at the forefront.
Thank You (Again)!
We know you’re eager to play, and while we don’t have a release date to share yet, we’re incredibly proud of the progress the team has made. On that note, we’re excited to share that we have increased the amount of players being invited to playtest and we’ll continue to grow that number throughout the year with console players joining the fun this Fall.
Thank you for your time today and for always riding with us. We truly love getting your feedback and your passion keeps us fired up as we build the next evolution of the skate. franchise. We can’t wait to see you in San Vansterdam.
Sign up to become a skate. Insider today for a chance to playtest and help shape the future of skate. Console playtesting is coming this Fall 2024.
